Why This Matters

Year-round link to South Asia: The Abu Dhabi–Dhaka corridor now operates four times weekly year-round after its June 26 debut, cementing the route as essential infrastructure for the UAE's Bangladeshi workforce and regional textile trade.

Brussels gets expanded capacity: From December 15, Etihad increases to 11 weekly rotations to the Belgian capital, up from seven, featuring First Class cabins on three-cabin A321LRs.

Extended leisure seasons: Winter escapes to Zanzibar now run through March 31, 2027, and Palma flights continue until October 18, pushing both well beyond original seasonal endpoints.

Etihad Airways is expanding service across five continents, signaling confidence in travel and cargo demand. The United Arab Emirates' national carrier has announced a coordinated series of frequency increases and extended seasons—moves that expand Abu Dhabi's role as a crossroads for expat communities, leisure travelers, and regional commerce.

The Dhaka Route: Connecting Communities

The Abu Dhabi–Dhaka service, which launched on June 26 with a sold-out inaugural flight, is now confirmed as permanent year-round operation on a Boeing 777. That aircraft—with 28 business-class seats and 374 economy berths—is purpose-built for this market.

For the UAE's approximately 800,000 Bangladeshi residents, a direct flight to Dhaka means faster family visits, lower ticket prices than connecting routes, and reduced travel time. The route's four weekly departures provide genuine scheduling flexibility. The Boeing 777's cargo hold also serves regional trade: garment manufacturers, electronics suppliers, and medical-goods traders now have consistent capacity to move goods between Bangladesh and the UAE, with onward connections to European and North American markets.

Remittances from the UAE to Bangladesh exceed $4 billion annually, and reliable air connectivity supports this flow. The year-round schedule removes seasonal uncertainty that previously disrupted both passenger bookings and cargo logistics. For businesses and workers, predictable access to home improves operational planning and reduces reliance on advance booking windows.

Brussels: Strategic Capacity Expansion

From December 15, Abu Dhabi–Brussels increases from 7 to 11 weekly flights—a 57% capacity boost on one of Europe's major transfer hubs. The A321LR aircraft feature First Class cabins, positioning the route as a premium offering.

Brussels Airport processed 5.2 million passengers last summer, with approximately one-third connecting between Africa, Asia, and North America. For UAE residents planning European holidays or business trips, the additional frequency means direct seat availability instead of extended waits. For business travelers, four extra weekly rotations enable flexible scheduling. The First Class introduction also positions Etihad competitively on the premium segment of this route.

The Brussels hub provides practical logistics advantages as well. As a Schengen hub, traders can consolidate shipments, minimize customs processing, and accelerate delivery across Europe. For UAE-based importers and exporters, this efficiency translates to lower per-unit freight costs, shorter warehouse dwell times, and faster inventory turnover.

Kraków: Four Times Weekly Service

Poland's Kraków now has four weekly Abu Dhabi connections (increased from three starting July 27) on A321LR aircraft with First Class service. This is the only carrier offering First Class between Kraków and the Gulf.

Kraków attracts both leisure travelers and business traffic. Poland's economy is expanding, with rising middle-class incomes and increased diaspora visits. For the UAE-based Polish community, the increase from three to four weekly services eliminates scheduling constraints during school holidays and year-end travel periods.

Zanzibar and Palma: Extended Seasonal Service

Both seasonal routes have been extended well beyond their original schedules. Zanzibar now operates through March 31, 2027—a six-month window covering winter and spring holidays. Palma de Mallorca extends to October 18, capturing the European autumn season.

For UAE residents, these extensions provide reliable direct access to beach destinations during school breaks and holidays. The six-month Zanzibar window and extended Palma service eliminate the need to book during compressed availability windows. Travel agencies can offer consistent options to families throughout extended seasons.

Practical Benefits for UAE Residents

The expansion creates concrete advantages for anyone living in the United Arab Emirates:

More predictable travel: Bangladeshi residents can book frequent family visits on a reliable four-times-weekly schedule rather than managing seasonal gaps.

Business flexibility: Executives targeting European markets can schedule meetings with confidence in return flight availability.

Holiday options: Families have expanded date windows for Zanzibar and Palma beach breaks instead of competing for limited seasonal slots.

Cargo efficiency: UAE-based businesses gain consistent freight capacity to Europe and South Asia, reducing shipping costs and delivery times.

Booking Information

All schedule changes are bookable now through Etihad's website and travel agents. The Brussels frequency increase begins December 15; Kraków increases start July 27; Zanzibar and Palma extensions are available for immediate booking. The Dhaka route operates year-round with no seasonal closures.
