The United Arab Emirates Armed Forces have signed a partnership agreement with Space42 and Leonardo DRS to integrate secure satellite communications with advanced command and control systems. The memorandum of understanding announced by the UAE military establishes a framework for deploying satellite-based communications infrastructure across military operations, reducing dependency on traditional radio networks and commercial providers.

What the Partnership Covers

Space42, the Abu Dhabi-based satellite and artificial intelligence company, will provide satellite communication infrastructure. Leonardo DRS, the US-based defense systems integrator, will supply tactical computing systems and vehicle-mounted hardware designed to process encrypted satellite signals and integrate them with military command networks.

The collaboration addresses a practical operational challenge: military personnel operating in remote desert areas, maritime zones, or mobile field positions frequently lose reliable communication with central command through conventional radio networks alone. This new integration enables continuous connectivity across dispersed units through satellite infrastructure.
