Emirates Group to Launch New Biometric Check-In System at Dubai Airport in 2027
Emirates Group will introduce a new biometric check-in system at Dubai International Airport in early 2027, enhancing the passenger experience with automated baggage handling and facial recognition technology. The system builds on the foundation of the Sara robot platform but represents a new generation of technology, not an upgrade to existing units.
Passengers will be identified using facial recognition at dedicated drop stations, eliminating the need for physical boarding passes or ID documents. Luggage will be received, weighed, and tagged automatically, reducing manual intervention in the check-in process.
Participation is voluntary and requires opt-in via the Emirates app or airport kiosk. Emirates confirms that biometric data is handled in compliance with UAE’s Federal Data Protection Law and Dubai’s Digital Government Framework. Data is not stored long-term and is only used for the duration of the check-in process.
All technology components are designed and manufactured within the UAE, supporting the Group’s commitment to regional innovation. The system is being developed at Emirates’ own robotics lab in Dubai.
The initial rollout will begin in Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport in Q1 2027. The deployment is part of a broader effort to streamline airport operations and improve passenger flow.
Emirates Group has not disclosed specific metrics such as queue reduction percentages, robot fleet sizes, or exact handling capacities. The system focuses on enabling a seamless, touchless experience for travelers without requiring physical interaction at check-in points.
While Emirates continues to explore other innovations—including drone inspections and automated cargo systems—the 2027 launch is solely focused on passenger check-in and baggage handling using the new biometric platform.
