UAE Launches Three-Month Accident-Free Summer Campaign
The United Arab Emirates has launched its "Accident-Free Summer" campaign, a three-month awareness initiative running through September designed to reduce road accidents during the peak summer driving season. The campaign emphasizes vehicle safety checks, maintenance requirements, and compliance with existing traffic laws across all seven emirates.
Key Campaign Focus Areas
The Federal Traffic Council has outlined essential safety measures for residents traveling during summer:
Vehicle Maintenance Requirements:
• Tire inspection and pressure verification
• Brake fluid, coolant, and oil checks
• Lighting system functionality (headlamps, brake lights, turn signals)
• Battery condition assessment
Practical Safety Measures:
• Roof cargo load restrictions (maximum 60 centimeters height)
• Removal of heat-hazardous items (lighters, aerosol cans, power banks)
• Activation of child-safety door locks
• Proper seatbelt use and emergency kit availability
Driving Compliance:
• Speed limit adherence
• Safe following distances
• Avoiding distracted driving
Enforcement and Implementation
Police forces across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah, and Ras Al Khaimah are conducting vehicle inspections and enforcement activities aligned with the campaign. The initiative involves collaboration with insurance companies, tire retailers, car rental agencies, and service stations to promote awareness among the 9.4 million residents.
The campaign provides residents with comprehensive safety guidelines through official channels, including the MOI UAE mobile application, which offers vehicle inspection checklists, safety protocols, and traffic information.
Why Summer Driving Requires Extra Caution
Summer months present specific challenges for drivers in the UAE. Extreme heat affects vehicle performance, longer distances increase fatigue-related risks, and increased travel volume during school holidays intensifies road activity. These conditions make adherence to maintenance requirements and traffic regulations particularly important during this period.
Residents are encouraged to schedule maintenance appointments early, verify vehicle condition before extended trips, and adjust travel timing when possible to avoid peak-risk periods. For families with children, particular attention to vehicle heat safety protocols is recommended.
The campaign runs through September 30 and aims to promote road safety awareness across the UAE through coordinated enforcement and public education efforts.
