England deliver historic 7-0 away win over Croatia in Nations League campaign

England recorded their largest-ever Nations League victory on Saturday, defeating Croatia 7-0 at Stadion Rujevica in Rijeka. The result marked Croatia's heaviest defeat in international football history and lifted England to six points in Group A3 of League A.

Manager Thomas Tuchel made five changes to his starting lineup from the side that beat the Czech Republic, handing Alex Scott his first England start and bringing Jude Bellingham back into the side. The attacking trio of Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon remained intact.

England led 4-0 at half-time and maintained complete control throughout. Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka each scored twice, while Jude Bellingham, Anthony Gordon and substitute Morgan Rogers added the remaining goals. The margin of victory equals the biggest in Nations League history since the competition began in 2018.

Defensive collapse proves costly for hosts

Croatia's defence was overwhelmed by England's pace and movement. A defensive error by Josip Stanišić directly led to one goal, playing the ball across his own box for Saka to intercept and score. England's front four demonstrated fluid movement that Croatian defenders struggled to track.

The hosts now remain on three points after three matches. Spain currently leads Group A3, with England in second place and the Czech Republic bottom with no points.

Quarter-final qualification comes into view

The Nations League format sees group winners and runners-up advance to the quarter-finals in March 2027. The four winners of those two-legged ties qualify for the Finals tournament, scheduled for June 2027.

England's goal difference improved to +8 after three matches, a significant advantage should teams finish level on points. Tuchel described the performance as "complete" and praised the team's attitude throughout the match.

For United Arab Emirates-based fans following European football, England's next group stage fixtures will determine whether they secure a top-two finish and a path to the knockout rounds.
