DEWA Marks World Creativity and Innovation Day with Community Engagement and Innovator Recognition

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority celebrated World Creativity and Innovation Day on April 23, 2026, bringing together employees, youth, and innovation leaders across the emirate to showcase initiatives in clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and smart grid solutions.

The day's activities reflected DEWA's commitment to fostering a culture of innovation within the organization and across Dubai's wider energy ecosystem. Employees participated in 3D printing sessions at DEWA's Advanced Manufacturing Centre, gaining hands-on experience with additive manufacturing technologies that the utility uses to produce spare parts on demand. The interactive sessions highlighted how modern manufacturing can reduce supply chain delays and operational costs while minimizing waste.

Alongside the manufacturing activities, DEWA hosted Youth Innovation Workshops designed to engage the next generation of problem-solvers. Participants explored challenges in renewable energy integration, water efficiency, and grid digitalization, learning how AI and advanced technologies are reshaping utility operations. The workshops also featured 'Innovation Play' initiatives and 'DEWA Family' programs, creating informal spaces where innovation ideas could be shared and developed collaboratively.

The celebration also honored innovators from various sectors who have contributed to advancing clean energy and sustainability goals. Recognition ceremonies acknowledged individuals and teams whose work aligns with the UAE's broader National Strategy for Advanced Innovation and the emirate's Net Zero 2050 pledge.

DEWA's emphasis on creativity and innovation reflects the utility's positioning as a driver of technological transformation in Dubai. While the organization operates several ongoing initiatives—including AI-powered grid management systems, expansion of renewable energy capacity through the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, 3D printing for maintenance operations, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure—the April 23 celebrations focused on engaging staff and the community in the innovation process itself rather than announcing new projects.

The event underscores DEWA's recognition that sustainable energy transition requires not just capital investment in infrastructure, but also a workforce and community engaged with the technologies and thinking required to support it.
